Our Team

Emma

I have always loved animals, I have found the two dogs who have been part of my life to be the most loyal, loving and rewarding friendships I have ever had.

After losing my amazing best friend ‘Leety’ in 2014, I lasted around eight weeks without a dog in my life. The house was so quiet and no longer felt like a home so into my life came Charlie, a liver and white Springer Spaniel. This little man changed my life and led me to starting ‘A Dog’s Best Friend’. He suffered quite badly with separation anxiety as a young dog, which was difficult to manage this when I had to inevitably leave him for work. So, after moving to York to undertake my Occupational Therapy degree, I ended up being a dog walker. I can quite honestly say it is the best decision I have ever made.

In 2016, my beautiful Son, Zachary arrived into the world. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I have raised Zach totally alone. This job has enabled me to balance parenthood alongside job I absolutely adore. The best thing of all is that Zach has been raised around all sorts of animals and this I believe will prove invaluable for him as he grows. Maybe one day, he will take over the reins here (if he does not make it as a superhero of course).

It has been a fantastic journey so far and almost seven years on, I am still absolutely in love with my job. I have turned my love of animals into my career and I could not be prouder of what has been built.

Keelie

Keelie started working with A Dog's Best Friend around two years ago. She joined us on work experience from Askham Bryan college where she was undertaking an Animal Care qualification. Following the completion of the hours required for her course, she carried on coming out with me every week because she loved it so much. Keelie is young and extremely confident with the dogs. She has her own dog, also called Charlie and a keen interest in horses. COVID-19 has delayed Keelie's official start but I'm pleased to finally have her on board.

Zachary

This is Zach. He is four (going on fourteen) and the youngest member of the team. He can be a little bit bossy and a bit of a fair-weather walker, but he is getting there.  He enjoys coming out on walks when the weather is nice and feeding the dogs lots of sweeties (of the doggy variety). Zach’s speciality is talking, seeking the answers to the universe and feeding the animals. He has a dog and two guinea pigs at home so ‘knows everything’ about them. Zach is eagerly awaiting the day we get an enquiry to walk a giraffe, or a dog to challenge Graham in a race.
